Our Top Songs of 90’s

When we think of the top songs of the 90’s, so many artists come into the picture that it is difficult to fathom who to include and who to leave out. Some of the top songs in the 90’s can be categorized into teen pop, alternative rock and grunge music. Contemporary country music that started in the 80’s continued to hit the charts like always.

While R&B and urban pop continued to be popular, dance music and pop started becoming more popular. By the end of the 90’s, some of the top artists in dance and pop came out some top hits that epitomized 90’s music. Among the most popular pop bands were Backstreet Boys, Usher, Paula Abdul, Seal, Maxi Priest and Toni Braxton, to name a few.

90’s rock also saw some of the biggest names in the music industry come into the picture with some of the greatest songs ever sung. Grunge and alternative rock were made popular and their popularity continued throughout this decade. Groups like Alice In Chains, Red Hot Chili Peppers, R. E. M. And Nirvana produced some of the finest music ever. The already popular groups like Aerosmith, Guns N’ Roses and Van Halen continued to be popular during the 90’s.

Hip hop also continued to be popular through songs sung by groups like Public Enemy, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube and M. C. Hammer. Hip hop changed in nature from the beginning of the 90’s to the end of this decade. Synthesizers became a major instrument in hip hop songs. The commercial image of hip hop, that was associated with pure music without any thought for income, also changed. Hip hop now became more money oriented and business minded.

Country music also continued to be popular among the masses. Garth Brooks was probably the most popular among the country musicians. Other artists like Alan Jackson, Clint Black and Mary Chapin Carpenter also became very popular and belted out some of the top hits of the decade. In fact, country music was so popular in the 90’s that Time magazine did a cover story on the history and popularity of this genre of music. Towards the end of the 90’s, country music also gave birth to alternative country music.

The 90’s saw music leave the shores of the United States and other English speaking countries and reach out far and wide. The popularity of television ensured that music videos were available for viewing worldwide. The artists also achieved a God like status in the minds of music lovers. The top songs of the 90’s were some of the greatest that were ever sung and they made way for the music that became popular in the next decade.
